Egypt Signs Solar Power MOU with China’s TBEA

Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr, and the Minister of Military Production, Mohamed Saeed Al Asaar, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Chinese company TBEA to construct a new 1,000 MW solar energy power plant in Egypt, informed Energy trend.  Minister Nasr stated that, “the project comes in line with the President’s directives to diversify energy sources and aims to make a quantum leap in the local manufacturing of solar power in Egypt.”

The power plant will be divided into  two separate 500 MW plants and the project will be carried out by local capacities.  According to Al-Borsa, the Ministry of International Cooperation will fund the project’s feasibility study and development. In return, TBEA will share its expertise in power plant development to enable Egypt’s photovoltaic (PV) growth.

Minister Al Asaar mentioned that the collaboration with the Chinese firm will entail the construction of a factory to manufacture solar cells in addition to other supporting material required for the production of solar energy.
