IOG, Transocean Sign North Sea Oil Drilling Contract

Independent Oil and Gas (IOG), the North Sea focused oil and gas company, has signed a rig contract with Transocean Drilling procuring the Transocean John Shaw semi-submersible rig to drill an appraisal well on the Skipper oil discovery in the UK sector of the North sea.
Transocean CEO Resigns

Steven Newman is stepping step down as president and CEO of Transocean Ltd., effective Feb. 16. Additionally, he is resigning as a director of Transocean. Until a permanent replacement is named, Ian Strachan, chairman of Transocean’s board, will serve as interim CEO.

Transocean Ltd. issued a monthly fleet update summary which includes newly signed contracts, significant changes to existing contracts, and changes in estimated planned out of service time of 15 days or longer for all rig classifications since the previously issued comprehensive fleet status report or fleet update summary.

Oil giant BP has lost its attempt to shift over $15 billion (9 billion pounds) of costs related to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill onto contractor Transocean, increasing the possibility BP may have to foot the entire $42 billion clean up bill.
